Probation officer charged with sexually assaulting woman he was monitoring

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A probation officer was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting one of the people he was charged with monitoring.

David Francis, 48, is charged with second degree sex offense, sexual activity by a custodian and sexual battery, according to a release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Detectives were notified on Monday through a referral by the North Carolina Attorney General's office regarding a sexual assault that occurred on February 28, at 5701 Executive Center Drive.

The NC Department of Public Safety also notified the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Detectives were told that the victim went to meet Francis at his office on Executive Center Drive.

The victim is on probation and Francis was her probation officer, employed by the Department of Corrections.

The victim advised during the meeting, Francis sexually assaulted her.

Francis voluntarily came to the Law Enforcement Center and spoke to detectives regarding this case. 

Francis is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
