Finalists chosen for SC Teacher of the Year

COLUMBIA, SC (WBTV/AP) -

The South Carolina Education Department has released the names of five finalists for South Carolina Teacher of the Year, and one of the teachers is from Rock Hill.
            
The finalists were chosen from nominees representing 81 public school districts and other special school districts in the state:

  • Jeffrey M. Venables, chemistry teacher, Northwestern High School, Rock Hill
  • Lisa O. McCrea-Raiford, elementary teacher at the Center of Innovating Learning at Pinecrest - Aiken County         
  • Darleen S. Sutton, first grade teacher, Pickens Elementary School
  • Paul D. Johnson, biology teacher, Saluda High School
  • Trevor T. Ivey, science teacher, Alice Drive Middle School, Sumter          

The winning teacher receives $25,000 and the use of a BMW for a year. The other finalists receive $10,000.

Officials will announce the winner May 1.
