The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have arrested a second man they say is involved in the robbery of a woman at gunpoint in a parking deck outside Carolinas Medical Center early Tuesday morning.
Quay Laurentis Davis, 19, was arrested and charges with robbery with a dangerous weapoon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and felony conspiracy.
The robbery took place on Tuesday, March 5. Investigators say a woman was visiting the hospital and walking in the parking deck at 1000 Blythe Boulevard just after 1 a.m.
Two armed men approached her and demanded personal items from her, and fled the scene.
Later that day, detectives received a tip that the suspect vehicle that was used in the robbery was at a home on Taylor Drive. The owner of the vehicle, Joshua Aaron Wilson, 19, was then contacted and voluntarily came to the Law Enforcement Center where he was interviewed by robbery detectives.
After being interviewed, Wilson was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony conspiracy. He was taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
On Tuesday, March 12, Davis was arrested on Long Paw Lane in northwest Charlotte.
"We're thankful no one was hurt in the incident" says Kevin McCarthy, Manager of Media Relations for CMC. "And of course we're working closely with CMPD to get them what information they need to help solve the case. We've got some pretty good security video we turned over to them."
Hospital officials say "We're a 24-7 operation. There are a lot of people coming and going" so they have security measures around the clock, including foot patrols in parking decks, enhanced lighting, surveillance cameras and emergency call boxes.
Security escorts are also available for employees and visitors. McCarthy says "if they feel they would like to have to security escorts we can provide that for them."
McCarthy says the hospital intends to review the situation and security to see "whether there is something we can do in the future to make the area safer than it is."
If you have any information about this, please call Crime Stoppers at 704.334.1600.
Last summer, police investigated three attacks at Presbyterian Hospital, which is one mile away from CMC. LeJarris Williams, 31, was indicted in August on charges related to one of those attacks.
