3 attempted traffic stops by PCSO turned into pursuits

FLORENCE, AZ (CBS5) -

Multiple traffic stops were attempted by Pinal County Sheriff's Office deputies last week involving people who were in the country illegally, fleeing from officers.

PCSO deputies saw a vehicle speeding down Highway 84 Monday, Feb. 25, and when they tried to pull the car over the vehicle took off driving 80 mph in a 55 mph zone. When the driver, Dimas Daniel Orundo-Lopez, 40, made a U-turn the back tire on the driver's side came off the vehicle, according to PCSO deputies.

Lopez stopped the vehicle in a nearby muddy field where he and his passenger, Claudio Santiago Orduno-Canez, 27, both tried running away. Officers were able to catch both Lopez and Canez, who admitted they were in the country illegally.

When officers searched their car they found 35 bundles of packaged marijuana, which weighed 759 pounds and had a street value of $569,250.

Lopez and Canez have been booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for possession of marijuana for sale and transportation of marijuana for sale according to PCSO. Lopez has also been charged with felony flight.

PCSO tried to make another traffic stop Tuesday, Feb. 26 on a Chevy truck after making multiple traffic violations when the driver took off. During the short pursuit PCSO officers saw the Chevy truck running stop signs and speeding down streets before turning into a desert field where he tried to avoid hitting a concrete irrigation canal but ended up losing control of the truck and crashing.

After the truck crashed the driver, along with nine passengers, ran according to PCSO. Officers were able to locate seven of the individuals who have now been turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol for processing.

PCSO had a third pursuit happen after trying to stop a vehicle for traffic violations that led to a short pursuit. The pursuit led offices into a desert area off of Standfield Road near Peters Road where The driver and several other passengers ran from the car. PCSO officers along with PCSO helicopter and Border Patrol agents detained everyone from the car. Border patrol is now processing the detainees.
