March begins, but the ski season is still in full swing

After a season of up and down weather things are definitely looking up for the remainder of the North Carolina ski season.

Forecasters expect snow flurries for the next week in North Carolina's High Country.

That combined with cold temperatures has the final month of the season on pace to be a strong one on the slopes.

"We could end this season on a high note and that would be great," said Brad Moretz at Appalachian Ski Resort.

The season started slow with warm weather for much of November and December.

Just before the busy week between Christmas and New Year's Day temperatures dropped.

The same was true before the Martin Luther King Holiday weekend and President's Day.

"We did get lucky then," said Moretz.

It turned what could have been a lackluster season into a decent one, he said.

The cold weather coming in now will assure them of staying open until March 24th and with some of the best conditions of the season.

The slopes were busy on Thursday and officials expect all of the High Country Ski Resorts to lure thousands of skiers to the mountains over the next few weeks.
