CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
Police arrested a man they say was involved in several commercial breaking and entering cases.
Officers were dispatched to a commercial burglary alarm at the Northcross Medical Center on Albemarle Road at about 1 a.m. Thursday.
When officers arrived, they found the back door kicked open and covered with what appeared to be roofing tar.
Inside the building, officers discovered a hole cut through an exam room that led to the pharmacy.
Officers also found a bag containing burglary tools, along with several types of prescription medications that were taken from the pharmacy.
A short time later, officers found 34-year-old Richard Rivera hiding in a restrooms. Officers say he was covered in the roofing tar-like substance.
Investigators say Rivera had tried, unsuccessfully, to get into the building by cutting his way through the newly tarred roof.
Rivera was arrested at the scene. As investigators looked into the case, they determined he was also responsible for three other open cases, including an attempted breaking and entering at the same business earlier this year.
