After 4 years, Mike Helms has resigned as head coach at Freedom.
During his tenure, the football program reached heights it has never reached. Last season, the Patriots went 12-3 and made it to the 3A Western Regional Finals for the first time in school history. 12 wins is also the most ever in a single season for Freedom.
After a losing season in his first year, the Patriots went back to back seasons with 10 wins. Helms is the first Freedom coach to lead his team to 3 straight 10 win seasons.
His final record at Freedom was 37-14.
Helms was also a head coach at Cherryville, East Burke, Northwest Cabarrus, and West Charlotte before he took the job at Freedom. He has 112 career wins as a head coach.
