(CNN) - After years of decline, the number of deaths among teenage drivers is on the rise again.
The number of 16 and 17-year-olds killed in car accidents was up during the first 6 months of 2012.
A total of 25 states reported increases in teen traffic fatalities, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association.
Many said distracted driving has become on of the main problems.
Both teen and adult drivers face distractions due to evolving technology.
While the death rate is up among young drivers, researchers note that fatal accidents involving this age group remain at historically low levels.
