Veterans: Beware of pension schemes

Posted: Updated:
UNION COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

The Union County Veterans Service Office issued a warning Monday to veterans and their families about schemes that could affect their pensions.

The Federal Trade Commission recently published an article regarding agencies who charge fees to help veterans filing for pensions.

You do not need to pay those fees. The Union County Veterans Service Office assists with the application process, free of charge.

Any veteran who served one day during a period of war, 90 days of active duty, and meet income and asset guidelines set by Veterans Affairs, may be eligible to file.
