Once again, the century-old Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament...better known as the C-I-Double A...is in town.
And that never gets old for us.
We like what the conference stands for...
Good sports, but more importantly, good academics.
Now listen to this…
Since 2000, the organization has handed out nearly 17 million dollars in college scholarships to students attending CIAA schools.
What an accomplishment.
As we end another Black History month, we want to pause and applaud the CIAA for its efforts.
When our young people acquire the necessary education and skills, they can help change the world for the better.
The CIAA has been providing that opportunity for more than a century.
Now think about it.
Where would the world be without CIAA school graduates like Reginald Lewis?
He established the first black billion dollar business.
Or the leadership skills of Andrew Young—the first black United States Ambassador to the United Nations…and Douglas Wilder—the first black governor elected in Virginia.
These CIAA graduates are an example to others…dreams can come true.
We believe the CIAA will continue to produce effective leaders this world needs.
So thank you, CIAA, for your vision and your commitment.
It is making a difference.
Because WBTV is "On Your Side," we encourage everyone to "Speak Out" – tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
