Black History month comes alive at local church

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Multiple families gathered today in honor of Black History month to remember and celebrate their families heritage. 

The gathering was at CN Jenkins Presbyterian Church in Charlotte this morning.

Of those in attendance was Ruth Sloane who shared some of her families relics and photos with the attendees.

Ms. Sloane had a photo of her great, great, great grandmother who was a slave, also displayed was a cast iron pot that her family used during those times to cook there food.

The exhibit had a greater importance to Ms. Sloane who's daughter Aisha Dew is the first African American to be the Chair of the Democratic Party of Mecklenburg County, Sloane said,"To go from slavery to freedom, that is what the exhibit does."

Other families brought enlistment papers, archival photos and memorabilia as all participants shared their individual families Black History.
