KANNAPOLIS, NC (WBTV) -
A body was discovered Saturday on Highway 85 in Kannapolis forcing authorities to close down the south bound lanes causing major delays.
Sergeant Barger with the North Carolina Highway Patrol said they received a call around 12:30 PM that a body was in the roadway.
After arriving on the scene officers discovered the body of a person who had been struck multiple times.
At this time investigators do not know how the person ended up on the road or for how long the body was out there.
Sergeant Barger said he has received calls from motorists saying they saw what looked to be a body as early as 3:30am Saturday morning.
The closure last over 4 hours as investigators tried to piece together what had happened.
The body has been sent to the Charlotte Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
