Students in West Charlotte take part in Brain Bowl

Six middle school classes took part Saturday in the Project L.I.F.T. Black History Quiz, Brain Bowl.

The schools are part of the West Charlotte Corridor, which was selected to receive the support of Project L.I.F.T (Leadership and Investment For Transformation) because of its poor graduation rate of 51%, the lowest in the CMS system.

The Program provides additional services and educational enhancements.

This competition is the first of its kind and was designed by Rep. James "Smudgy" Mitchell, wife and former astronaut Joan Higginbotham and West Charlotte Students.

Organizers say that the students have been studying since last fall in preparations for the competition.

The entire corridor has been involved in the preparation of the students from Johnson C. Smith University to the Public Library.
