A crash involving a tractor trailer has caused two lanes of I-77 to close, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The accident happened before 7 p.m. Friday on I-77 northbound near mile marker 47, South of Statesville.
Officials say heavy delays are expected while crews clean up the scene, and that the road is not expected to re-open until late Friday evening.
Both northbound lanes have been shut down. Motorists are being detoured off the interstate at Exit 42 and being directed to U.S. 70 in Statesville, where a right-hand turn will take them back to I-77 at Exit 49.
There is no word on a possible cause of the accident, or if there were any injuries.
Crews were able to clear the crash scene faster than expected. All lanes re-opened about 8:30 p.m., the highway patrol said.
