Police: DSS worker, teacher arrested for solicitation of a child

MONROE, NC (WBTV) -

A man who works as a Union County Department of Social Services staff member and as a teacher at a local school was arrested for solicitation of a child by texting, according to the Monroe Police Department.

On December 28, detectives began an investigation regarding a Union County DSS staff member, Raymond Douglas Nixon, 31, who was a part-time employee of a local group home, for inappropriately texting a juvenile at the group home, the report states.

Nixon is also a teacher at Parkwood Middle School, and a coach for both Parkwood Middle and Union Academy. He is currently suspended with pay from Parkwood Middle pending the outcome of the investigation, police told WBTV. 

On Friday, February 22, Nixon, was arrested for one count of solicitation of child by computer or certain other electronic devices to commit an unlawful sex act.

He was released from jail on a $5,000 unsecured bond pending his court date, which is scheduled for March 20.
