WEATHER ALERT: Winter weather advisory and winter storm warning in effect

Hello. This is Christine Nelson writing this email from the newsroom. You'll want to pay close attention to the forecast today. Many of us will experience some form of rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow. It will affect how you start the morning so tune in now for the forecast every 10 minutes from Meteorologist Al Conklin.

Winter Storm Warning

As of 4:00 a.m. a winter storm warning is in effect for the following counties. If you live in these counties you will see significant accumulations of sleet and snow, topped by moderate to heavy accumulations of ice due to freezing rain:

Burke (northern half)

McDowell (northern half)

Caldwell (northern half)

Yancey

Mitchell

Avery

 

Winter Weather Advisory

As of 4:00 a.m. a winter weather advisory is in effect for the following counties. If you live in these counties you will see light accumulations of snow, sleet and freezing rain. This will make for hazardous road conditions:

Lincoln

Iredell

Burke (southern half)

McDowell (southern half)

Caldwell (southern half)

Rowan

Watauga

Wilkes

Alleghany

Ashe

Charlotte will see rain this morning and it will be heavy at times. The weather will change throughout the morning so your best bet is to tune in throughout the morning for the latest updates.

As you know, rain and the morning commute don't always mix. So traffic reporter Tonya Rivens will have the latest updates on how the commute is shaping up through the morning, on both the interstates and secondary roads.

BREAKING NEWS: We are following a homicide just outside uptown Charlotte. It happened on Summit Avenue. We have a crew on the scene at this very moment. As we get details we will break in with updates on the air.

    Sports Illustrated reported Sunday that at least four former Carolina Panthers employees have received “significant” monetary settlements as a result of inappropriate workplace comments and conduct by owner Jerry Richardson.

    A truck crashed into a power pole Sunday afternoon in west Charlotte near a gas station. Officials say the truck crashed into a pole causing another pole to snap on Wilkinson Boulevard. The incident occurred around 12 p.m. near the QuikTrip gas station.
