WBTV has obtained dash cam video from a chase last week where a man is suspected of shooting the mother of his child outside of the Chesterfield County courthouse.
Fifty-six-year-old Curtis Gorny is facing a slew of charges after deputies say he pulled up to a car sitting outside the courthouse and fired shots at 21-year-old Olivia Weaver and her stepfather, Johnny Nolan.
The shooting happened on February 13, just after 12:30 p.m. at the courthouse on Main Street.
According to Sheriff Parker, Weaver was at the courthouse for a paternity test with Gorny. She has a six-month-old child and has been in a dispute over who the father is.
The judge ordered Gorny to pay Weaver child support, according to Olivia's mother, Jennifer Smith.
"He needs to be locked up. He should have been locked up years ago," Smith said.
After the shooting, deputies chased Gorny for 15 miles, into Pageland, forcing him to crash his vehicle. Radio traffic released last week confirms that Gorny fired shots at deputies during the chase.
The Sheriff's Office released the video from that chase on Thursday morning. In the video, Gorny is seen driving into oncoming traffic on a two-lane road.
"It could have all been avoided, if we would have all sat down and thought about it and talked it out. Everything can be solved by talking it out," Smith said.
At one point, according to WBTV's Kristen Hampton, Gorny nearly slams head-on into a tractor trailer. It looks like he misses the collision by just inches.
The chase got into speeds of triple-digits, according to the video.
At one point, an officer is overheard on radio traffic saying that Gorny "lost the right front tire."
The video ends when Gorny wrecks his vehicle and is taken into custody by officers. Gorny is seen struggling with officers as they attempt to arrest him.
No deputies were injured in the chase.
He appeared in court the next day with his arm in a sling and a bruise on his left eye. Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker told WBTV that Gorny got those injuries when he crashed.
Gorny is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail on three charges of attempted murder, one for shooting at deputies during the chase, and two counts for the initial shooting at the courthouse. He was also hit with several gun-related charges, as well.
Weaver was taken to McLeod Medical Center in Florence with non-life threatening injuries. She is still hospitalized and being treated for her injuries. Nolan, Weaver's stepfather, was taken to Cheraw where he was treated and released.
