Much of last year's team that made it to the state quarterfinals is gone but the Monroe Lady Tornadoes look like they are ready to make a run to a state championship in Macon next month.
Monroe easily advance to the second round of the quad a tournament after a 19 point win over Riverdale Tuesday night.
The Lady Tornadoes led by as many as 27 points in the third quarter.
Monroe uses their press defense to set up their offense.
It has won them a region title but their head coach says her team needs to improve their execution of their full court press before their next game.
"Our press is helping us alot but if we ever get it to run right. No. it is still not right. not the way we want it to be," said head coach Cheryl Cheeks.
Monroe girls will host Howard in the 2nd round.
The date and time of the game will be announced once it is learned if the Monroe boys will play at home or at Rutland in the next round.
