Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx is on the road right now.
He's in Raleigh, calling on state leaders to support two venues that help drive the city's economy. A city spokesperson says the mayor will attend a breakfast with the rest of the Mecklenburg County delegation at 7:30 a.m.
WBTV is told Foxx will talk about the need for Charlotte-Douglas Airport to stay in the city's hands. The county issued a letter to state, in response to lawmakers who want the airport to be controlled by a regional authority. In the letter, the mayor stressed the city has had control of the property since 1936 and that it has a 12 billion dollars impact on the local economy each year.
Foxx is also expected to talk about the need for state funding to renovate Bank of America stadium. The Carolina Panthers are hoping a combination of taxpayers dollars, state funding and contributions from their organization will fund an estimated $300 million project to give the stadium an uplift. The team has asked for escalators at each entrance, new digital scoreboards and an indoor practice facility.
