An accident in Gaston county between an SUV and a passenger car has claimed the life of one.
The accident happened around 4:30pm Saturday afternoon on Highway 321 near community Road.
Rescue personnel found the body of 70 year old Susan Teachout under an SUV when they arrived on scene.
Trooper Williams of the North Carolina Highway Patrol said, Teachout was standing outside her car after it had slid off the road, when an SUV hit the same patch of ice and struck her.
The 5 passengers in the SUV were unharmed and despite efforts by rescue personnel they were unable to save Teachout who perished at the scene.
Northbound York highway was closed down for about an hour causing extensive delays in the area.
