White House unveils "College Scorecard"

In his State of the Union address, President Obama promised to offer a solution to families trying to figure out how to get the most education for their dollar.

Live on the White House website now is the College Scorecard.

It is a service of the US Education Department which provides families with numbers they can easily get their arms around and determine which college or university is a good fit for their student.

You can find report cards for colleges based on programs such as majors offered, location and enrollment size.

If you search for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, you learn that the net price per year to attend is $9,044 after grants and scholarships.  You also learn that 52.7% of students graduate within 6 years and only 2.8% of students defaulted on their loans.  This information just scratches the surface of what is available.

You can also search by area of interest, region of the country and more.
