Firefighters in Lincoln County are trying to determine if neighboring homes along Lake Norman are the targets of arsonists.
Denver firefighters tell WBTV people on Ranger Island Road called 9-1-1 after smelling smoke around five Wednesday morning. When the town's bravest got there, they found flames shooting out of the house. All told, about half of the house was charred by the fire.
WBTV is told the house is a vacation rental and the homeowners are from Charlotte. No one was there at the time the fire started. No firefighters were hurt.
It is not clear how the fire started.
Firefighters say they were in the same neighborhood recently. They put out a blaze at a home across the street that turned out to be a case of arson. Authorities say they are working to figure out if these two incidents are related.
