Deputies in Watauga County have charged a Boone woman with misusing thousands of dollars from a local church.
On November 21, 2011, Watauga County Sheriff's Office received an initial report of possible misappropriation of funds from the Deerfield United Methodist Church located at 1184 Deerfield Road, Boone, NC.
This initial report alleged that approximately $118,000 had been misused by an employee of the church, beginning in late 2008.
Sheriff Hagaman reported that the Watauga County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit conducted an investigation into the incident. As a result of the investigation the following individual was charged and arrested.
Treva J. Jones, 44, of Boone, was charged with one count of Felony Embezzlement on December 21, 2011. Jones was arrested on December 22, 2011 and given a $25,000 secured bond. This charge is still pending in Watauga County Superior Court.
On January 3, 2013, deputies received an additional report of possible misappropriation of funds from Deerfield United Methodist Church. The report alleged that approximately $48,000 had been misused by a former employee of the church.
Sheriff Hagaman reported that the Watauga County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit conducted an investigation to the incident. As a result of the investigation the following individual was charged and arrested.
Jones is charged with six counts of Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense, six counts of Felony Forgery and six counts of Felony Uttering a Forged Instrument.
Jones was arrested on February 11, 2013, and given a $25,000 secured bond with a court date of March 26, 2013.
