Churches are stepping up to help Charlotte - Mecklenburg school (CMS) system succeed.
Monday night New Birth Charlotte is hosting a town hall meeting in Huntersville, NC for CMS new superintendent Dr. Heath Morrison. Morrison will lay out his vision and will tell people who show up the district's challenges.
CMS says since there are many houses of worship in Charlotte, the district wants to be strategic on how to capitalize on that. The school district believes churches can be great partners. And the district claims churches' participation can help boost academic achievement.
Morrison says he is serious about making a connection with all people of faith.
That's why he created a new position in his management team. It's the Assistant Superintendent for Community Partnerships and Parent Engagement
The job is to go out in the community to create, develop, and sustain partnerships.
"We have a community of can do people in Charlotte," Assistant Superintendent LaTarzja Henry said. "And many of them have a desire to want to help and we want to be strategic of how we implore that help. How we are really matching that help to meet a need.
Henry says she will show up at Monday night's town hall meeting. She will be looking for ways to create a strong partnership between CMS and New Birth Charlotte.
