CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
A young boy who is suffering from a hearing impairment has teamed up with the Charlotte Checkers to help raise money for hearing aids for children.
Luke Brenes and the Checkers are raising money for a group called "Beginnings."
Luke's father says his son has been slowly losing his hearing over the past year.
He took Luke to a Checkers game, signed him up for clinic and now he plays in a league with other deaf children.
Luke says he wants to help others like him who have to pay up to $6,000 for a hearing aid.
On Sunday Luke will be dropping the ceremonial puck to start the Checkers game at Time Warner Cable Arena.
From each ticket sold $5.00 will go toward the group "Beginnings."
