The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Domestic Violence Unit is using a new tool this year to raise awareness of Teen Dating Violence.
The Unit is partnering with the Youth Crimes Unit, school resource officers, and service clubs to promote awareness during high school basketball games.
The joint effort has several things planned to raise awareness:
Have students wear purple at basketball games
Athletes will wear purple socks and purple wristbands at select games
Cheerleaders will use purple pom-poms
A guest speaker will address the crowd during halftime
Domestic Violence and Youth Detectives will be set up outside the gym with information on teen dating violence
You'll notice the Awareness effort at the Garringer @ West Meck game February 8, and also at the Phillip O. Berry @ Olympic game February 12.
