2-county chase ends with crash in Myers Park, driver was allegedly smoking crack

Several police agencies join in a chase the lead officers through two counties early Thursday morning.

It was supposed to be a simple traffic stop, but that's not the way it ended.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said officers in Stallings tried to pull a car over around 2:30 a.m., when the driver decided to take off at high speeds.

The vehicle lead police through surface streets as well as on freeways at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.

As the car approached the intersection of Selwyn and Colony Roads, the sedan took the turn a little too shallow, and collided with a brick wall, ending the chase.

Officers swarmed the car, and took the man into custody.

The CMPD said inside the car, there was evidence the driver had been smoking crack.  He's also suspected of dealing in drugs.

The car and the wall it collided with sustained a fair amount of damage.

The vehicle itself, didn't belong to the man behind the wheel.  Police said it was borrowed at the time.  Officers have contacted the owner.
