CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
For the first time since the mid-1970's, the Cincinnati Police Department plans to build a new district headquarters.
The second informational meeting about a new District 3 building was held on Wednesday.
The building housing District 3 on Warsaw Avenue in East Price Hill has been used since 1908.
"It's small. It's a clean facility. It's just outdated, and when you talk about modern policing, it's really time to move forward and so this is a great day," said Police Chief James Craig.
The $24 million project was the topic of a feedback forum held at Elder High School on Wednesday night. The public was invited to voice their opinions.
"Everybody has known [Warsaw Ave.] as being the police station on the western side of town and to be losing that would be a detriment to our community," said Tom Gamel, president of the East Price Hill Improvement Association. "Being a location where people can walk to District 3 to discuss an issue with the police officers is important."
Eleven locations were discussed at the meeting, but five appear to be front runners for the new building.
"We haven't decided on a location as of yet," said Chief Craig.
The police chief confirmed wherever the new location ends up, it won't effect the Price Hill area.
"Certainly, it's going to be on the west side, but it's not going to impact service or delivery at all," said Craig.
The city will narrow down a list of possible sites after hearing from all District 3 neighborhoods, and a decision will be made later this spring.
