The Zahra Baker All Children's Playground at Kiwanis Park is internationally recognized, the city of Hickory announced Wednesday.
Playworld Systems, Inc. is the manufacturer of the playground equipment that was used at the Zahra Baker All Children's Playground at Kiwanis Park in Hickory. Every year, the company prints about 375,000 catalogs to distribute to their customers, internationally, so they can see the products and to give customers a vision of what their specific playground could look like. The catalog features Playworld Systems' school age playgrounds, which is their bread and butter projects, as well as some of their other product lines.
The City of Hickory's Zahra Baker All Children's Playground is featured in the 2013 catalog in a two-page spread showcasing the playground. A professional photo shoot by Playworld Systems was held at the playground, after it was dedicated in 2012.
Mack McLeod, Director of Hickory Parks and Recreation said, "This is a great opportunity for Hickory to be showcased in a catalog that will be viewed by so many communities, internationally. The Zahra Baker All Children's Playground is a premiere playground." McLeod added, "This was an extremely important project because money to fund the playground was raised by the community, who also came together to build it."
"It's very rewarding to see the positive impact our equipment can have on a community that has experienced indescribable tragedy," said Matthew Miller, chief executive officer of Playworld Systems. "In the midst of such anguish, we are privileged to help establish this uplifting place that brings the joy of play to everyone and excludes no one."
Cobie Ellington, the sales consultant for Playworld Systems that worked with the City of Hickory to help build this playground added, "Playworld Systems is very proud to be a part of this wonderfully fun playground for all children. This project is a great testimony of the loving spirit of the citizens of Hickory and the surrounding area. They not only raised the funds to build it, they gave their time and talents to take part in a great community build."
McLeod presented the catalog to the Hickory City Council at the Tuesday, February 5 meeting.
