UNION COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

The bond for a man accused of beating his toddler stepdaughter remains $1 million after a court hearing Tuesday morning.

Joshua Wilford Houser was accused of beating 3-year-old Kilah Davenport with a blunt object in May of 2012.

Kilah spent months in the hospital.  Her family says doctors didn't think she would survive. But she did. She was able to move back home in September, and her family says she is still making progress.

In court Tuesday, Houser's lawyer argued for his client's bond to be lowered, but the judge said since nothing new has come in the case, he was sticking with the previous amount of $1 million.

Kilah and her family were in the court room to hear the judge's decision.
