A man was arrested in Caldwell County for bringing over a pound of marijuana to the county with the intent to sell the drug, according to the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office.
Dontaye Antwain Connelly, 31, was arrested for the drug violations after a joint operation spearheaded by the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office Ice Unit, with the assistance of the Lenoir and Boone Police Department Narcotics Divisions.
Ice Agents collected information which led them to believe that Connelly would be coming to Lenoir to make a drop of 1.25 pounds of marijuana. Agents conducted surveillance and saw him in a Honda Accord north of Cheeks Crossroads traveling on Hwy 321 toward Lenoir.
Agents conducted a vehicle stop on Connelly at the Holiday to Go Superette at Blowing Rock Blvd and Creekway Drive. There, a K-9 Officer with the Lenoir Police Department found a large bag containing the drug, which was broken down for sale into five different bags, the report states.
The marijuana has a street value of $4,600, according to North Carolina Street Guidelines.
Connelly was arrested and charged by the Ice Unit with possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle to keep/store a controlled substance.
He was taken to the Caldwell County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond. He has a first appearance in District Court in Lenoir on February 5.
