Three people were arrested for their involvement in a meth lab found on January 24, according to the Watauga County Sheriff's Office.
On Friday, February 1, Casey Ward, 25, Lindsey Miller, 20, and Heather Nelson, 20, all from Boone, were arrested for their participation in the manufacture of methamphetamine, deputies said.
All three were identified by investigators as "smurfs," a law enforcement term for individuals who go from store to store buying the maximum legal amount of pseudoephedrine products with the intent to distribute them to be used in the production of meth.
Deputies say the trio is accused of supplying the products to Kevin Baird, who lived on NC-194 North in Vilas, where the methamphetamine laboratory was found on January 24.
Ward and Miller were given a 25,000 bond and Nelson was given a $10,000 bond. All three have a March 23, court date.
