South Division officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested 29-year-old Donald Geoffrey Sherman. He is accused of breaking into a vehicle.
Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Bay Tree Way Friday night at about 10:30.
When officers arrived at the scene, the victim said he observed Sherman breaking into his vehicle and tried to stop him, but Sherman ran off. The victim chased Sherman across the street and restrained him until officers got there.
Sherman is charged with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia. CMPD says Sherman has a lengthy criminal history in Mecklenburg County and is a prolific property thief.
