Deputies said they arrested a Chesnee woman after she was found passed out behind the steering wheel at a stop sign with a child in the car.
Spartanburg County deputies said they were called about an intoxicated driver along South Blackstock Road at Highway 11 on Friday about 1:30 p.m. A witness told deputies she saw Crocker run off the road several times, coming back onto the road airborne before stopping.
Deputies said when they approached the car, 32-year-old Emmie Lou Crocker was slumped down in the driver's seat and a child was strapped into a car seat on the passenger side. Deputies said the car was not in park, but after it rolled forward, Crocker put it in park and gave permission for them to search her vehicle.
When asked why she had passed out, Crocker told deputies she needed crackers because of a health condition, according to the sheriff's office report. Paramedics were called to the scene.
Deputies said they asked Crocker if they would be stuck by a needle while searching, Crocker said no, but while looking in her purse, one of them was stabbed by an uncapped needle. Deputies said they also found two spoons with some substance on them inside her bag. The deputy was taken for treatment.
Deputies said Crocker was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and child endangerment. She was later released from jail.
