Deputies: Parents tried to help man with child porn evade arrest

RUTHERFORDTON, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said they arrested a Rutherfordton family after one man was accused of having child pornography and his mother and stepfather tried to help him evade arrest.

Rutherford County deputies said they received a tip that 45-year-old Ollie McDaniel Jr. may have child pornography. During a search of his Creek Road home, investigators said they seized cell phones and a laptop computer.

Deputies said they determined there was evidence of sexual exploitation after obtaining a search warrant. He was charged with third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Deputies said McDaniel's mother and stepfather were also arrested during the investigation  because they lied to investigators about McDaniel's whereabouts, trying to help him avoid arrest.

Margie and Glendale Ruff were both charged with resisting a public officer. Margie Ruff was also charged with accessory after the fact.

The family is being held on varying bonds at the county jail.
