Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies located and arrested four undocumented immigrants hauling 160 pounds of marijuana.
A U.S. citizen was also taken into custody on charges of human smuggling and drug possession. The arrests occurred in the southeastern part of the county.
During the investigation, sheriff's detectives said they determined all four of the immigrants had paid between $2,000 to $6,000 each to be transported into the U.S. All claimed to be from Mexico and crossed the border near the town of Sonorita, MCSO said.
Arpaio noted his deputies seized about 15 tons of marijuana and arrested more than 200 undocumented immigrants in connection to human smuggling operations in 2012.
