Troopers: Jackknifed tractor trailer among many wrecks in NC

Troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol say that a jackknifed tractor trailer on I-85 is one of many wrecks they are responding to Friday.

Interstates 85, 485, and 77 are "extremely busy" with wrecks, troopers told WBTV just after 3 p.m.

The inner and outer loops of 485 between exits 4 and 6 were dealing with at least four accidents at the time, with a total of 160 for the day so far.

In at least 20 of those, investigations are still pending, troopers said.

MEDIC told WBTV a person was taken to Carolinas Medical Center from a wreck on Shopton Road that happened around 2:30 p.m.

Emergency crews were also on the scene of an accident on I-85 where a tractor trailer had jackknifed around the same time. It appeared that at least one other vehicle, a pickup truck, was involved.

WBTV's Sarah Batista was at the scene of the wreck, near the Cox Road exit, around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

She reported at 3:30 that northbound traffic on the interstate was down to two lanes as crews worked to clear the scene.

It is unclear at this time if anyone was injured, or if weather conditions played a part in the accident.

Anyone driving should use caution, and only drive if it is absolutely necessary.
