Man charged with stabbing woman, setting house on fire

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested a man after a woman was hurt in a stabbing and house fire Friday morning.

Tuesday afternoon, the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team announced the arrest of 22-year-old Ryan Lee Capps. He is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault on a handicapped person, sexual battery, and first-degree arson.

Investigators say Capps knew the victim.

The woman was rushed to the hospital Friday morning after firefighters rescued her from her burning home on Walkers Ferry Road.

Investigators received a call at 3:31 a.m. for a residential burglar and fire alarm.

WBTV's video from the scene shows smoke still coming from the windows of the home at about 4 a.m.

The fire was put out a short time later.

Firefighters found the woman inside the home, suffering from stab wounds.

She was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and the stab wounds.
