LOWER PRICE HILL (FOX19) -
Emergency crews rescued a man trapped in a well in Lower Price Hill.
Metropolitan Sewer District officials say a sub-contracted crew was cleaning
a tank in the 1600 block of Gest Street, using a large vacuum hose in a
shaft way to clean. Several sections of the hose came loose and fell, hitting
one of the workers.
The victim's injuries prevented him from being able to exit the underground
tank, 65 feet under street-level. In addition, emergency crews were unable to use the same path to carry him out, and were forced to devise another route to get him out safety.
Firefighters specially trained to handle similar situations responded to the scene and placed the man on a stabilizing board before rescuing him.
It took emergency crews nearly an hour to rescue the worker. He was taken to UC Medical Center for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
