GASTONIA, NC (WBTV) -

A firefighter was injured while battling a house fire in Gaston County, according to Crowder's Mountain Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters from Crowder's Mountain Fire and Rescue assisted the Union Road Volunteer Fire Department in battling the house fire Thursday afternoon.

Shortly after noon, both departments received a dispatch of a reported structure on fire on Cedar Oak Circle in Gastonia.

When crews arrived on the scene, they described a single story home with smoke and flames visible from the top of the dwelling.

Upon entering the home, firefighters encountered a fully involved fire in the attic, officials said.

About 30 minutes later, the fire was extinguished. The home sustained approximately $50,000 in damages.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital for injuries, but is expected to recover. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Gaston County Fire Investigations Task Force.
