PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The Phoenix Suns and Head Coach Alvin Gentry "mutually agreed to part ways" on Friday, the team said.

Gentry took over the helm as interim head coach of the NBA team in February of 2009 and was given the job full time by owner Robert Sarver in May 2009.

Phoenix dropped a 98-94 decision to the Bucks at US Airways Center on Thursday night. The win was Milwaukee's first in Phoenix in 26 years.

The Suns Facebook page said an interim coach will be named within 48 hours.

Phoenix is now 13-28, the worst record at the halfway mark in a quarter-century and putting the Suns at the bottom of the Western Conference. They have lost 13 of their last 15 games.

Gentry was in the final year of his contract.

The Suns won 54 games and went to the NBA playoffs in Gentry's first full season, but the team parted ways with Amare Stoudemire, Steve Nash and Grant Hill and the team has been in a free-fall since with a rebuilding effort that has been less than fruitful to this point.
