CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
With
winter weather in the forecast for this evening, Medic is reminding everyone to
stay safe and use caution while venturing out on area roadways and
sidewalks.
Any precipitation that falls overnight will
freeze, causing hazardous driving conditions.
If you don't have to drive, don't - stay at home and off the roads.
However, if you must drive, Medic advises using extreme
caution by:
- Increasing your following distance and,
- Decreasing your speed
Fall
Injuries - Area Sidewalks, Driveways, Etc.
During winter
weather episodes, Medic historically sees an increase in fall related injuries
rather than an increase in motor vehicle accidents. Medic is advising the
community to use caution when walking, especially in areas where water can
freeze – sidewalks, driveways.
Medic
Preparedness
Medic has
increased the number of crews in the field to meet the demand this winter
storm may bring.
In addition,
all Medic ambulances are equipped with an automated chain system. If
needed, employees can deploy these chains to help guide the ambulance through
the elements.
Move Over
for Emergency Vehicles
Finally, Medic
would like to remind the community about the Move Over Law. Medic units, as well as other public safety partners, will be responding to emergencies
along area roadways.
If safe to do so, please Slow Down and Move
Over to the left, to protect emergency responders who are assisting
patients.
