Hundreds of students at Reid Park Elementary got their hands on a brand new pair of shoes Thursday morning. Thanks to Samaritan's Feet and sponsorships that cover the cost of the new shoes, children from kindergarten to second grade were fitted with new pairs of kicks for free.
Teresa Hucko with Samaritan's Feet says while fitting the kids for their new shoes, volunteers noticed some of them were wearing shoes that were 2 sizes too small.
"If a parent has to choose between shoes and food first. They're just going to keep putting off that need of buying shoes," Hucko said.
During the morning shoe giveaway program, volunteers fitted new shoes for 341 children.
Samaritan's Feet says today's giveaway was a part of their National Day of Service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.
