PRESCOTT, AZ (AP) -
The prospective buyer of Yavapai Downs is asking the state to issue him a horse racing license for the Prescott track.
The Daily Courier reports that Gary Miller is studying the track's facilities as he considers whether to pull trigger on a court-authorized $5.5 million purchase of the track.
The track went into Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings in July 2011 after the Yavapai County Farm & Agriculture Association decided two months earlier the track didn't have enough money to open.
Miller is president of the Arizona Horseman's Benevolent & Protective Association and has been involved in the horse racing industry for decades.
His application to the state Department of Racing requests 68 live racing days in 2013 and 68 additional days to run off-track betting facilities.
