Motorists traveling on I-85 Thursday night should be aware of two closures happening for construction.
The N.C. Department of Transportation will close the exit ramp from I-85 South to N.C. 73 (Exit 55) in Concord at 9 p.m. Thursday, January 17, weather permitting.
The ramp will be closed while contractor Lane Construction resets temporary barrier wall to prepare moving traffic to the ramp's new configuration.
While the ramp is closed, motorists can continue south on I-85 to George Liles Parkway (Exit 54), turn left to cross over the interstate, then left to get on I-85 North back to N.C. 73.
The ramp will open at 6 a.m. Friday, January 18.
The contractor will also be closing the left lanes on I-85 North and South near Poplar Tent Road (Exit 52) from 9 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday while crews perform bridgework at the interchange. One lane will remain open in both directions.
The work is part of the $125.2 million project to widen 6.8 miles of I-85 from four to eight lanes from south of Bruton Smith Boulevard to north of N.C. 73. The project will also feature diverging diamond interchanges at Poplar Tent Road and N.C. 73.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
