PHOENIX (AP) -
A northeastern Arizona couple accused of tax fraud have pleaded guilty in a federal court in Phoenix.
Prosecutors say 62-year-old Lowell Mowery and 61-year-old Catherine Mowery both entered their pleas Monday. They are scheduled to be sentenced on April 8.
The couple from Heber was arrested in June and indicted by a grand jury in Phoenix.
The indictment alleged that the Mowerys filed a false federal income tax return for the 2008 tax year in March 2009.
Authorities say the couple claimed a refund of nearly $126,000.
The fraudulent claim was based primarily upon representations that money had been withheld by various financial institutions on behalf of the couple and the Mowerys were entitled to the claimed withholdings. But prosecutors say no such withholdings ever occurred.
