TUCSON, AZ (CBS5) -

An elderly Tempe couple wasn't missing over the weekend after all, according to Tempe police.

A police spokesperson said the couple was having some work done on their house and stayed at a hotel around the corner. Police said John Charles Stegmeier, 89, and Marie Montana Stegmeier, 90, were coherent, and knew where they were and why.

Police initially believed the couple unexpectedly drove to Tucson over the weekend and were reported missing.
