CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

With the Magnet Lottery Application period beginning today and running until February 11th it seemed only natural that CMS would hold their District Magnet Fair today.

The fair which was held at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology, gave parents and students alike the opportunity to learn about the different types of magnet schools within the CMS school system.

The various magnet themes offered are designed to promote the students abilities, interests and talents.

These themes range from  Visual and Performing Arts to World Languages, as well as the S.T.E.M theme, which is geared toward Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Researchers have shown that students who partake in magnet programs have greater student engagement and higher student achievement.

Open houses have been going on at schools throughout the district since last November and will continue through the end of the Lottery Application deadline.

For a list of open houses visit the CMS web site and click on Schools and Magnet Programs.
