Police arrest fugitive in Boone


Boone Police have charged Nicholas Lee Mattingly, 55, of Banner Elk, with one count of Felony Possession of Stolen Property as well as being a Fugitive From Justice.

Mattingly is alleged to have stolen a Jeep Cherokee in Indiana, before making his way to Boone, according to a news release from the Boone Police Department.

Mattingly was also wanted in Indiana for Felony Possession of Methamphetamine and the Infraction offenses of Driving While Suspended and Expired Plates.

Mattingly had agreed to come to the Boone Police Department, to discuss other police matters, when he was observed driving the stolen Jeep.

Mattingly was subsequently taken into custody for the aforementioned charges. 

Bond was set at $65,000.
