A Lancaster man was arrested Thursday after deputies say he made up a story about being robbed while delivering papers at a gas station.
Leon Caskey, 45, of Lancaster, is charged with filing a false police report, according to a news release from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.
At 04:22 a.m. on Sunday, Lancaster County Deputies were dispatched to 1416 Pageland Highway for a report of an armed robbery.
Upon arrival deputies met with the 45 year old male victim who was there delivering papers. The store was not open at the time. The victim reported that after stocking the paper box he went to the dumpster to dispose of some trash. The victim reported that two black male suspects wearing dark clothing approached him and ordered him to the ground at gun point. The victim reported that the suspects then stole money and his wallet. The suspects then fled the scene in an older model green car. No one was injured during the incident.
At the conclusion of the investigation, it was determined that the incident did not occur and that Caskey fabricated the story.
Caskey was arrested after surrendering himself to the Sheriff's Office. He was jailed at the Detention Center and released the same day on a $5,000 bond.
